Design Came First
Gary opened his design practice in Longview in 1994, and his plans have gone up in subdivisions across East Texas ever since. Most of them were handed to someone else's crew to build. Thirty years of watching that handoff taught the firm how much gets lost between a good drawing and a finished house.
His sons joined the practice, and Bort Custom Homes now does both. One team draws the plans and builds them, with the designer at the table from the first sketch to the final walkthrough. Nothing gets handed off, and nothing gets lost in translation. It is still a family business, and the people who draw the plans still know the families who live in them.
